Recently I flew in a small four-seater out
to the South West of Tasmania. As I looked down at the clouds below, I saw a shadow of the
plane inscribed on their illusive surfaces. The scale of this shadow varied depending upon
the closeness of the plane to the clouds but despite this variance it remained as a
perfect replica of the outside shape of the plane. Around its perimeter was incised a
flawless circular rainbow. This image became so alluring that it was difficult to focus
beyond to the landscape underneath it. I had a picture of this shadowy image, with it's
colourful border, forever floating freely above the surface of the earth neither
acknowledged nor observed by those below. This image has impressed in my memory. Its trace
symbolises my journey as an artist to uncover and illuminate the unobserved, the forgotten
and the lost both within the imagination and within the mysterious spectacle of life. |
